Abstract
1,207,001. Electron and ion beam generation. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 18 July, 1969 [26 July, 1968], No. 35816/68. Addition to 1,145,013. Heading H1D. The non-thermionic cathode glow discharge device of the parent Specification 1,145,013 is modified in that the end of the tubular anode nearest to the cathode is partially closed by an apertured diaphragm attached to the tubular anode. The diaphragm may be constructed from plate, perforated or mesh material and the shape of the aperture therein preferably, though not necessarily, conforms to the shape of the anode tube. The provision of the apertured diaphragm produces a more intense electron or ion beam. The apertured diaphragm may also be constructed concave or convex with respect to the interior of the tubular anode.
