Abstract
1,206,685. Travelling grates. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. 20 Sept., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 44763/68. Heading F4B. In a travelling grate, particularly a sinter strand, having longitudinal bars 6 resting on transverse bars 1, 2, 3 forming the grate sections, the longitudinal bars 6 overlap the top surface of the leading cross member 1 of each section by at least the amount of the clearance allowed in manufacture. The ends 8 of the longitudinal bars 6 have depending parts 10 to further protect the heads of the outer transverse bars 1, 2 of each section. Since the heads 3<SP>1</SP> of the intermediate transverse bars 3 prevent air passing over the surfaces of these bars, thermal expansion can be allowed for in the gap 14 over the intermediate bars 3, without overheating. The clearances provided between the retainers 7<SP>1</SP> and the head 31 of the intermediate bars is greater than that provided between the retainer 7, and the head 11 of the leading bar of a section by an amount corresponding to the thermal expansion.
