Abstract

1,205,966. Epipodophyllotoxin derivative. SANDOZ Ltd. 27 Nov., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 19462/70. Divided out of 1,205,965. Heading C2C. Novel compound (I) in which R 1 is H and R 2 is CH 3 is prepared by reaction of (II) in which R 3 is H or carbobenzoxy and (III) R 1 -CO-R 2 or an acetal thereof with CH 3 OH, C 2 H 5 OH or HOCH 2 CH 2 OH in the presence of an acid catalyst and splitting off any carbobenzoxy radical in manner known per se. Pharmaceutical compositions for oral, parenteral or enteral application comprise a compound (I) and a suitable carrier or diluent and are used for therapy in the treatment of pathological processes accompanied by undesired cell multiplication, e.g. malignant neoplasms.
