Abstract

1,203,838. Valve amplifiers. SIEMENS A.G. 20 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 39756/68. Heading H3W. In an amplifier circuit, the signal to be amplified is phase modulated in dependence on the drive amplitude and applied to a transit time tube (e.g. a travelling wave tube) 13 via a circulator 2 which has an intermediate port 4 terminated by a voltage controlled reactance 7. The reactance is controlled by the output of a demodulator 9 such that the reactive element introduces a phase distortion to compensate for phase distortion produced by the tube 13. A delay line 1 may be included between an input directional coupler 8 and the circulator 2, or the lead 6 may constitute a delay.
