Abstract

1,203,539. Washing machines. G. A. BRAUN Inc. 20 March, 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 14776/69. Heading D1A. A washing-extracting machine comprising a drum 14 rotatable in a casing 11 having perforated sides 19 and a closable opening 24 in one end which can register with an opening in the casing which is mounted on the upper members of a frame connected through vibration absorbing means with lower members pivoted to a supporting surface, power-operated means being provided for pivoting the casing and with it the drum to empty the laundry out through the aligned openings in the drum and casing. Washing drum 14, which is mounted for rotation on a shaft 15 whose ends are journalled in blocks 17, 18 in the front and back plates 12, 13 of the housing 11, is divided e.g. into three compartments 23 by longitudinal partitions 22 but may be of one, two or four compartments. The drum 14 has a hinged door 26 closing an opening 24 into each compartment 23. The front plate 12 has an opening 27 with a hinged door 28 and during loading and unloading each opening 24 is brought in succession into alignment with opening 27 when its door 26 opens downwardly and engages a lower lip 32 of opening 27. Drum 14 is driven at low and high speed for washing and spin-drying respectively by low and high speed motors 36, 37 through a multibelt drive. The housing 11 is mounted on two units at either side of the machine each including dampers 47 comprising springs 61 and piston-type shock absorbers 66 connected between support bars connected to housing 11 and base plates 48. Plates 48 are connected at the front by a shaft 72 journaled in bearing blocks 74, 74 mounted on plates 76, 76. At the rear of the machine two hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders with pistons 83 are pivoted to plates 76, 76 and the piston rods are pivoted to the plate 13 so that the rear of the machine can be raised to tip out the contents on to conveyer 81.
