Abstract

1,203,227. Bearings. PRECISION FORGINGS Ltd. 19 Feb., 1968 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 51773/66. Heading F2A. In a bearing assembly having an externally coned member which bears with an internallyconed sleeve supported within a second member and keyed therewith so as to be non-rotatable, fluid is supplied under pressure so as to bias the sleeve in bearing engagement with the coned member so as to take up radially wear. As illustrated, the externally coned member 14 is part of a pivot-pin 13 which is fixed in a frame 10. The sleeve 17 is disposed in a recess 15 in a link member 16. The sleeve is secured against rotation relative to the link member by means of a tongue 27 engaging in a recess in a thrust pad 22 which is itself keyed to the link by dowels 28. At the end of the coned sleeve having the greater surface area there is provided a peripheral groove on both the outside and inside of the sleeve, and in each groove is located a sealing ring 30, one engaging with a cylindrical portion 19 of the pivot-pin 13, and the other with the wall 18 of the recess in the link. Oil is supplied under pressure via passage 34 and ducts 35 to a lubricant channel 33, and forces the sleeve against the thrust pad 17. Lubricant may then pass freely between the bearing surfaces of the pivot-pin and sleeve. Oil grooves 37 are spaced at 30 degree intervals around the sleeve and communicate with annular ducts 36 in the sleeve. Oil filling the space between the end of the pin and the thrust pad causes the sleeve to move outwardly and into bearing engagement with the pivot-pin. The oil pressure in the space continuously biases the sleeve outwardly and so takes up radial wear. Oil passage 38 supplies lubricant to the thrust pad.
