Abstract

W i n c h - actuated hoists w i t h guided carriers; worm-gearing- actuated apparatus.- Relates to portable apparatus for hoisting girders &c. to the roofs of tunnels, mine passages, &c. and supporting them while they are being shored up. A rectangular tubular frame a has a U-shaped telescopic extension a<2> adiustable as regards height by pins e<1> passing through holes e. Sleeves n slidable on the extension frame members carry arms n<3> on which the girder is placed and are connected by a bar n<1>, the ends of which are connected by ropes p passing over pulleys q to the drums r of worm actuated winches v or like gearing mounted on a cross shaft s, which may be carried by a support adjustable on the frame as regards height. Screwed studs h<2>, h<3> are centrally mounted in the frame and adapted to engage with the floor and roof and allow the frame and its load to be rotated to the desired position, when the frame is secured to the floor and roof by screwed studs l<1> at the corners of the frame and the girder is then hoisted to the roof and shored up.
