Abstract

1,201,573. Machinery guards. ATKINSON'S OF CLITHEROE Ltd. 10 June, 1969 [13 June, 1968; 16 Dec., 1968], Nos. 28254/68 and 59787/68. Heading F2J. A machinery guard of plastics material for a telescopic shaft 5 provided at each of its ends with a universal joint 6 comprises two tubular sheaths 14 to which are releasably secured conical end portions 12 which protect the universal joints 6. Each end portion 12 comprises a tubular collar 13 containing four longitudinally extending tongues 17 formed with arcuate bearing portions 18, adapted to engage an annular race groove 10 in the yoke boss 9 of the associated universal joint, and lugs 19, adapted to engage holes 20 in the associated sheath 14. In a modification, resilient arms 121 carrying lugs 122 are adapted to lock the end portions 112 to the sheaths 114.
