Abstract

1,201,451. Granulating metals. UDDEHOLMS AB. Jan. 15, 1969 [Feb.5, 1968], No.2504/69. Heading C7X. A molten material is granulated by causing it to fall against a stationary plate to be disintegrated by impact with the plate into separate drops which rebound from the plate and fall into a cooling bath beneath the plate. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a ladle 1 from which molten material, e.g. iron, steel, or ferro-alloy is poured on to a fixed plate 7, e.g. of firebrick, and droplets 9 of iron so produced fall into the vessel 2 of water. The apparatus comprises also a funnel-shaped guide 4, 5, and a conveyer 6 for removing the granulated material.
