1,201,267. Vehicle washing apparatus. KLIENDIENST & CO. MASCHINENFABRIK. 20 July, 1967. No. 18342/70. Divided out of 1,201,266. Heading B7J. Vehicle washing apparatus comprises an inverted U-shaped portal 10 from which two pairs of brushes A and B are vertically suspended from arms 9, each brush being rotatably driven by a motor 6 via a belt 7, and the brushes being arranged such that those of pair A, which are contacted by the vehicle first, are driven in centra-rotation as indicated by the arrows so they move by frictional contact towards the sides of the vehicle, whilst brush pair B rotate in the opposite direction. Spring means, Fig. 1 (not shown), urge the brushes of each pair towards each other with the arms 9 of pair A parallel to the direction of movement of the vehicle to be washed, whilst those arms of pair B are transverse to this direction. In a further embodiment the brushes are suspended from links 13 pivoted at 14 to arms 9, these arms being urged by spring 12 towards each other. A rail 16 limits this movement.
