Abstract

1,201,185. Laminate. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 24 Aug., 1967 [27 Aug., 1966], No. 39103/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B1] A laminate comprises a vibration-damping layer of plastics material from 0À1 to 1À0 mm. thick interposed between two metal sheets. The plastics material may comprise a copolymer obtained from a mixture of 50 to 75 % by weight of vinyl acetate and 50-25% by weight of dibutyl maleate. Dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate or tricresyl phosphate may be used as plasticizer. This copolymer is bonded to the metal sheets without the use of adhesives. The two metal sheets may be of steel and of different thicknesses, e.g. 2À0 and 0À8 mm. respectively. Either or both of the outer surfaces of the metal sheets may be coated with a protective layer of a plastics material, e.g. P.V.C. The laminate is used to form the mixing chamber wall of a mixer to limit noise during operation of the mixer.
