Abstract

1,201,024. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Sept.15, 1967 [June 23, 1966], No.28142/66. Heading G3P. A control mechanism for a swash plate pump and of the kind in which a piston 12 adjusts the swash plate under control of a valve 34 subjected to system pressure has means to keep the driving torque constant, the means comprising first and second members 37, 38 pivotally mounted about mutually transverse axes 39, 40, biasing means 41 acting against the first member, means 43 responsive to the delivery pressure of the pump acting against the second member to actuate the valve 34, and a rod 46 connected to the piston and carrying balls 47 disposed between the first and second members. Changes in the swash plate angle due to movement of the piston 12 thus cause the mechanical advantage of the pivotally mounted members 37, 38 to be altered so that the spring 41 applies a different closing pressure on the ball 34. A pipe (not shown) connects the ball with an outlet 31 below the piston 12 which is loaded by a spring 23 and provided with a flow-restricting orifice 16. A spool valve 19 coupled to a manual control rod 22 may open ports 20, 27 to allow liquid to flow into or out of the space below the piston 12 to cause adjustment of the latter. A further valve (not shown) responsive to system pressure controls the piston 12 while the valve 34 remains closed if the balls 47 move below the position of the axis 39 due to reversal of the swash plate.
