A composition suitable for use in protecting the human skin against light comprises 5-(3,3- dimethyl-2-norbornylidene)-3-pentene-2-one of the general formula and a diluent or carrier, not being a composition comprising only a solution of the compound in acetone, ethanol, benzene or any solvent of lower boiling point than benzene. The composition is suitably in the form of a cream or emulsion and may contain conventional additives.
