1,200,251. Machine-tool details. CHARLES CHURCHILL Ltd. 23 May, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 15551/68. Heading B3B. A machine tool includes a slidable cylindrical ram 10 for supporting at its front end either a cutting tool or tools or a rotatable spindle for supporting a tool or a workpiece, and having fixed to its rear end a member 14 having a tongue 18 engaging a slot 19 in the body 11 of the machine tool to preclude rotation of the ram during its sliding movement. The ram 10 is supported in spaced bearing bushes 12 by hydrostatic bearings 13. The clearance between sides of the slot 19 and the tongue 18 is adjustable by a variable-position wedge 20. Rapid advance of the ram, under fluid pressure, is changed to slow feed when a trip mechanism 28 is tripped by a member 29. Advance of the ram is terminated by an adjustable dead stop 30.
