Abstract
1,200,081. Insulating pipes. MANNESMANN A.G. 4 Sept., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966; 10 March, 1967], No. 40308/67. Heading F2P. Pipe insulation comprises an insulating material body 3 adapted to surround or surrounding a pipe 1 and a preformed member or members 4 projecting into the body 3 and adapted to co-operate or co-operating with the outer surface of the pipe to prevent the passage of damp along the outer surface of the pipe. In the construction shown the members 4 consists of annular plates engaging the pipe 1 through shielding seals 5. The space between the pipe 1 and the body 3 is filled with a mineral fibre insulation 2. In a modification the mineral fibre insulation is omitted and the body is surrounded by a sleeve of a foamed thermoplastic material, the members being secured to the pipe by an adhesive (Fig. 2, not shown). The members may comprise a truncated conical hollow body co-operating with the surface of the pipe through a seal (Fig. 3, not shown) or being permanently secured to the pipe by an adhesive (Fig. 4, not shown). When a truncated conical hollow body is embedded in a body formed from two layers of different foam material the tangent of the conic angle is equal to the ratio between the heat conductivites of the two layers (Fig. 5, not shown). A separately formed, moulded, part may surround (Fig. 6, not shown) or support the inner surface (Fig. 7, not shown) the truncated conical hollow body. The members may each be a corrugated annular member (Fig. 8, not shown) which may be embedded in a ring of foamed material before it is placed in the remainder of the foamed body (Fig. 9, not shown). A layer of material having a low coefficient of friction and a sleeve of a heat resistant foil may be disposed between the pipe and the foamed body, the members penetrating the foil (Fig. 10, not shown). The members may be connected to a preferably metallic outer sheath (Fig. 11, not shown). Materials for the body comprise foamed polyurethene or silicon resin and the members may be of foamed synthetic material, e.g. foamed epoxy resin, or phenol resin pressings.
