[Also in Divisions B1-B2] In an apparatus, such as a heat-exchanger for sterilizing or pasteurizing liquids, wherein a film I of liquid flows down a surface which is heated by circulating heating medium through jacket 2, the film is continuously stirred by moving, hollow pad-like members 6 filled with fluid 9, the part 6b of each pad consists of an elastic membrane and the arrangement is such that the pads project into the film but do not contact the surface. The pads are supported by hollow arms 7 on hollow rotating shaft 8, all of which contain the fluid 9. The pressure of the fluid may be adjusted, e.g. by a pump. The pads may be provided with holes whereby the fluid, e.g. compressed air, is injected into the liquid of the film. The apparatus may be used as an evaporator, a chemical reactor, or a mixer (see Divisions B1-B2).
