1,198,780. Cooling dynamoelectric machine rectifiers. CKD PRAHA OBOROVNY PODNIK. 11 Oct., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 48236/68. Heading H2A. In a synchronous dynamoelectric machine, e.g. motor or generator, comprising a front housing 5 and, situated immediately adjacent a side of the machine cooling fan 2, a semi-conductor exciter unit having controlled and uncontrolled semi-conductor devices 6 and their heat sinks 1 and fuses, the axes of the devices are parallel to the machine axis, the heat sinks have fins lying in planes which are tangential to circles centred on the machine axis, and an individual guard 4 encloses the devices and an interconnection portion which includes their accessories. Thereby intake swirl of the fan passes between the fins to cool the devices, whilst the guard prevents contamination and mechanical stress which may result from such swirl.
