In the bow of a ship with a block coefficient of 0À6 or above, the bow frames 1, 2, 3, 4 are concave as viewed towards the centre line of the ship near and above the load waterline 17, the tops of the ordinates at minimum breadth of the concave portions of the frames being arranged to be not lower than the bow wave crest 9. The portions of the frames between the load waterline 17 and the light waterline 18 are smoothly joined to the convex portions of these frames below the load waterline. The stem topside which is above load waterline 17 is deflected from neutral frame 1 towards midships at least up to the level of bow crest wave 9 and is smoothly joined with the stem bottom, the stem crossing the neutral frame 1 on the level of the load waterline.
