Abstract

1,198,093. Treating tacky rubber surfaces. LONDON OIL REFINING CO. Ltd. 16 July, 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 25739/67. Heading C3E. [Also in Division C5] Tacky surfaces of natural rubber are rendered non-tacky by treatment with a composition consisting of a soap constituent which is primarily a water-soluble fatty acid, a smaller percentage amount by weight of an alkyl alcohol sulphate or alkyl ether sulphate, and a finely divided bentonite of a strong gelling grade in sufficient amount to establish and stabilize the colloidal dispersion. The soap constituent preferably comprises an alkali metal or alkanolamine oleate or ricinoleate. The preferred synthetic detergents are alkali metal salts of lauryl ether sulphate and of lauryl alcohol sulphate and may also include aryl alkyl alcohol sulphates and aryl alkyl ether sulphates. The composition may also contain small quantities of antioxidant, anti-corrosion, stabilizing, anti-foaming additives and alginates in the form of sodium, potassium or alkanolamine salts.
