Abstract
1,197,826. Growth promoters. MONSANTO CO. 6 Sept., 1968 [7 Sept., 1967 (2)], No. 42586/68. Heading A5B. Compounds of the general formula set out below are useful as animal growth promoters. They may be administered admixed with the animals' food or drink or as tablets, capsules, powders and liquid formulations comprising conventional diluents and excipients. The general formula for the active compounds is: wherein X is a halogen atom; p is 0, 1 or 2; R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy of up to 4 C atoms; a is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; R<SP>2</SP> is a halogen atom; b is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; d is 0, 1 or 2; Y is H, Cl, Br, a group X<SP>1</SP> n R<SP>3</SP> (where 3<SP>3</SP> is a hydrocarbyl group of not more than 18 C atoms selected from alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl and aralkyl; X<SP>1</SP> is a halogen atom or a hydroxyl or amino group and n is 1, 2 or 3; R<SP>3</SP> being other than phenyl when R<SP>1</SP> is a substituent in the 2<SP>1</SP> or 6<SP>1</SP> positions of the benzene ring), a cycloalkyl, alkylcycloalkyl or alkoxycycloalkyl group of 5 to 8 ring carbon atoms and up to 12 chain carbon atoms, a group R<SP>6</SP>O(R<SP>5</SP>) m R<SP>4-</SP> (where R is alkylene or alkoxyalkylene of not more than 8 C atoms, R<SP>5</SP> is alkylene of not more than 4 C atoms, R<SP>6</SP> is alkyl or alkenyl of not more than 4 C atoms and m is 0 or 1), or a group of the formula R<SP>7</SP>-CO- where R<SP>7</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl.
