Abstract
1,197,601. Polymerizing propylene. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 4 Aug., 1967 [9 Aug., 1966], No. 35885/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B1] Polypropylene is made by polymerizing a mixture of propylene and hydrogen, in n-heptane in the presence of a catalyst containing aluminium diethylmonochloride and delta TiCl 3 intimately admixed with from 1 to 12% based on the TiCl 3 of an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene, or a mono-, or poly-(nuclearly)-halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon at below 60‹ C. for at least 30 minutes. The halogenated hydrocarbon may be bromobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene, or p-dichlorobenzene. The polymer has a high isotacticity index.
