Abstract

1,197,427. Injection moulding. LA TELEMECANIQUE ELECTRIQUE and SOC. DE MECANIQUE ET OUTILLAGE DE PRECISION. 21 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968, No. 25856/69. Heading B5A. In a method of making ferrules for electric conductors one end of a tubular metallic element is widened and then enclosed in a mould and synthetic material injected to provide a sleeve on the end of the ferrule. Fig. 1 shows a machine for making the ferrules comprising a charging station A, a widening station B, a mould-closing and injection station C and an ejection station D. Four half moulds 5 are mounted on a turntable 1 which is rotated through 90 degrees by a rack (88), and toothed wheel (82) (see Figs. 12, 13 not shown). Charging station A.-The ferrules are fed from vibrating bowls, as 6 (see Fig. 2, not shown ) through flexible tubes 9 and a feed device 10 into a lower half mould 5. The feed device 10 (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) comprises feed ducts (15a, 15b), reciprocating feed rods 17, and means (28, 29) for stopping and releasing the ferrules. Widening station B.-A series of punches 38 provided with truncated cone-shaped ends are mounted on a plate 36 reciprocated by a jack 35. The punches widen the upper ends of the ferrules mounted in the lower half mould 5. Injection station C.-At this station an upper half mould 39 comprising parts 40, 41 (Fig. 7) is brought down to engage the lower half mould 5. Needles 47 are brought down by a piston 45 to engage the widened upper ends of the ferrules and synthetic material is injected into mould cavities 30 through a T-shaped injection channel 31 (see Fig. 6, not shown). Ejection station D.--Ejection pins 51, 52 are operated by a piston 53 which is moved upwardly against spring action by a piston (58) and cylinder (59), Fig. 8 (not shown). A pair of tongs 68, Fig. 9, operated by a jack 65 is moved to grip a spur .56 provided on the sprue formed in channel 31. The tongues are then withdrawn to the Fig. 9 position and the ferrules severed from the sprue by a guillotine 60 including a fixed blade 61 and movable blade 62 operated by a jack 63.
