Abstract

1,196,793. Spinning yarns; twist tubes. NUVAL CO. 10 July, 1967 [15 July, 1966; 9 June, 1967], No 31729/67. Headings DID, D1F and D1W. A method of imparting twist to one or more yarns comprises directing pressure fluid into an elongate passageway 36 along axes 40, 41, 42 which intersect the passageway at different non-radial relations thereto to create a vortical fluid motion, feeding a yarn 17 longitudinally into the passageway 36 and withdrawing the yarn from the passageway. The fluid is preferably directed substantially in the direction of yarn movement to tension the yarn during twisting by the fluid motion. A heater 53 may be disposed ahead of the fluid twister 13 to heat-set tihe twisted yarn. In a preferred embodiment, the yarn is withdrawn from the passageway 36 in a direction substantially transverse thereto. A second yarn 18 may be fed to the fluid twister 13 with the yarn 17, but at a greater speed so that the yarn 18 is wrapped round the yarn 17. The axes 40, 41, 42 are connected to a source of pressure fluid by means of a pipe 50 via an annular groove in the surface of a fluid twister block 30 and into which groove the axes open. The axes are directed obliquely toward the yarn passageway 36. A plied yarn construction, made by the above method comprises a pair of yarns, each comprising a plurality of constituent elements, the yarns being held together in one region by 'S' twist, and in another region by 'Z' twist with a region of zero twist separating the 'S' and 'Z' twist regions, the yarns being held together in the zero twist region by an intermeshing of the constituent elements of the two yarns. Preferably the yarn is formed with stubs.
