Abstract

1,196,119. Injection moulding. LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd. 25 Oct., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 50592/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E2] A stringer for a sliding clasp fastener (see Division E2) consists of a set of parallel threads or filaments and fastener elements having striplike extensions are moulded around the set of threads, the strips extending laterally of the stringer across the threads. Such a stringer is made by the apparatus of Fig. 4. The threads 1 are wound off a reel 10 on to a reel 13 and pass through a pair of separable mould halves 14. The winding is in a stop-start manner, and at each stop the mould halves are brought together and injected with plastics material by which the fastening elements 2 and their extensions are formed about the threads 1.
