1,196,085. Alkyl formates. B.P. CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 12 March, 1969 [23 March, 1968], No. 14140/68. Heading C2C. Alkyl formates, e.g. methyl, ethyl n- or isopropyl formates are prepared in a continuous process by feeding the alcohol and formic acid into a reaction zone in a distillation column. The formic acid is fed at a higher point than the alcohol and the alkyl formate is removed overhead.
