Abstract

1,195,032. Catheter introducers. J. E. WARREN. 27 June, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No 29545/ 67. Heading A5R. An intravascular catheter introducer comprises a flexible pointed needle 4 having a longitudinal slot 5 and flanges 6 on each side of the slot for opening the slot. In use a catheter is inserted in the needle and the needle is caused to pierce a blood vessel thus introducing the catheter through the blood vessel wall. After withdrawing the needle leaving the catheter in the blood vessel, tihe slot is opened, using the flanges 6, and the needle removed laterally from the catheter.
