Abstract

[Also in Divisions El and F1] An hydraulic drive for large torques, e.g. for large hole drilling machines and tool plates of mechanical drifting shields, comprises hydraulic piston and cylinder units 4, 5 pivoted on stationary pins 2 and on an hydraulically-actuated clamp 7, 7<SP>1</SP> surrounding the shaft to be driven, the piston and cylinder units being operated to oscillate the shaft or to rotate it stepwise, the clamp being released for the return stroke for stepwise rotation. The clamp comprises pivoted elements 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, and is operated by an hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 10, 12. To increase the gripping area of the clamp on the output shaft, the shaft may be formed with circumferential tapered grooves for engagement by correspondingly shaped clamping elements, Fig. 3 (not shown).
