1,194,095. Treating filaments, non-woven fabric. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 18 Oct., 1968 [20 Oct., 1967; 29 Aug., 1968], No. 49585/68. Headings D1F and D1R. In a process for forming a non-woven fabric by forwarding electrostatically changed continuous filaments to a moving foraminous receiver covering a suction laydown zone, the filaments are treated with water in the forwarding jets and/or on the foraminous receiver in an amount sufficient for the web to have adhered thereto 7-50% wt. water based on the weight of the web. The water can be applied to the liquid by sprays or by admitting steam to filament forwarding jets. The filaments can be polyester or polypropylene. The fabric can be consolidated by passing it between heated rolls.
