Abstract

1,193,921. Suction-lifting heads; feeding sheets. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. 12 Feb., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 2569/68. Headings B8H and B8R. A suction-lifting device for sheet material has two, Fig. 1, or three, Fig. 3, concentric suction heads, any one of which can be selectively projected into engagement with a sheet to be handled, so that a separate head may be used for each type of material, thereby eliminating contamination. The inner head 34, Fig. 1, is held in the raised position shown by compressed air which is admitted through a conduit 37 to lift a piston 30, attached to the head 34, against a spring 36. When the air supply is cut off the spring 36 pushes the head to its operative position shown chain-dotted. Both heads are connected to the vacuum supply through a hollow piston-rod 37. The two inner heads in Fig. 3 are held up in a similar manner by compressed air acting selectively on pistons 30 and 52.
