Abstract

1,193,510. Cleaning apparatus. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 Nov., 1967 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 50888/67. Heading A4K. [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for cleaning the vertical side blocks of a slab mould 12 after the side blocks have been moved apart comprises at least one pair of revolving brushes 54 mounted on a framework 50 suspended from a trolley 30 that is movable along a gantry 11. As the brushes move between the side blocks they are pressed outwards on pivoting arms (76) by pneumatic cylinders (88) (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). A pair of auxiliary brushes 55 may be provided for mould side blocks of greater heights. The brushes may be supplied with water by external sprays (90), (92) (Fig. 4, not shown) or by internal passages and outlets (112) (Fig. 7, not shown) in the central shaft of the brushes. In the case of non-planar mould surface the brushes may be contoured to the required shape. The brushes may comprise brass bristles with dulled ends, water cooled nylon bristles, or a loose canvas buffing wheel.
