Abstract

1,193,270. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. Ltd. 8 Sept., 1967 [14 Sept., 1966], No. 41089/66. Heading F2V. A thermoelectric safety valve for a gas appliance has a valve member 4 biased by a spring 5 to a closed position and controlling the supply of gas to a main and a pilot burner. After initial setting by rod 15 the valve is held open by a pilot flame thermocouple-energized electromagnet 1 unless the pilot flame is extinguished. A pivoted lever 8 connected by a bellows 12 to a temperature responsive phial 14 is arranged adjacent the open valve member and acts to close the valve against the electromagnet in the event of an excess temperature in the appliance. In another embodiment the bellows is connected to a second pivoted lever with a pawl at one end holding the end of lever 8 which is spring-loaded towards the valve member. On an excess rise of appliance temperature the bellows moves the second lever so that the pawl disengages from the spring-loaded lever which can then close the valve.
