Abstract

1,192,730. Luminescent materials. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 23265/69. Heading C4S. A phosphor consists of a divalent Eu activated alkaline earth metal borate defined by the formula where 0.15 # (x + y) # 0; 0À05 # y # 0 and 0.05 # p # 0À003. The phosphors are prepared by firing twice in N 2 and H 2 a mixture of alkaline earth metal carbonates, Eu 2 O 3 and H 3 BO 3 . The phosphors are used in L.P. Hg. discharge lamps for photochemical document copying apparatus. The lamps may include a light reflecting layer of TiO 2 between the lamp envelope and the phosphor to direct the light in one direction.
