Abstract

1,192,669. Mattresses. J. D. A. BASTOS and J. R. R. BASTOS. 26 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 35805/68. Heading A4M. A hard-surface type mattress has an internal structure comprising upper and lower plywood plates 11, 10 each formed with longitudinal and transverse rows of holes 12 and having their peripheral edges covered by protective metal strips (13, Fig. 1), the plates 11, 10 being held apart by rigid pillars 14 aligned with the holes 12. Locking pins 19, e.g. of rubber or plastics, which flanged heads 20 are passed through the holes 12 and washers 17 and are a tight fit in the ends of the pillars 14. The plates 11, 10 are interconnected by springs 22 under tension. Angle plates 21 are secured between the plates 11, 10 at their corners. The internal structure is covered with foam rubber. Vent holes communicating with the mattress interior are provided.
