Abstract

1,192,484. Travelling wave tubes. THOMSON-CSF. 11 March, 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 11851/68. Heading H1D. In a periodic permanent magnet focusing system-eg. for a travelling wave tube-having axially magnetized ferrite members 5 and polepieces 6, the reduction of focusing field with temperature increase due to the temperature dependence of the ferrite material is compensated by the use of an inner sleeve 4, within which the travelling wave tube envelope may be received, the sleeve shunting the surrounding focusing system, and being of a material the induction of which decreases with increase of temperature in such a manner as to maintain the focusing field at the axis substantially constant. The material of sleeve 4 may be 25% to 35% nickel and 75% to 65% iron.
