Abstract

1,192,443. Immobilising elbow joints. LEBANON MACHINE & MFG. CO. Inc. 14 June, 1967 [26 July, '1966], No. 27515/67. Heading A5R. A device' 'for immobilising an elbow joint to facilitate' the intravenous administration of fluids, comprises a pair of support members 14, 16, a pair of straps 18, 20 for interconnecting the support members at each end on one side of the arm, a third strap 22 for interconnecting the 'support members on the other side of the arm at the elbow joint and side plates 34, 36 mounted on the inner 'sides of each support member and adjustable with regard to spacing from the support members and angularity relative to the support members for compensating for the angle Ca between the longitudinal axes 28, 30 of 'the parts of the arm on each side of the elbow joint when the arm is in extended position. The plates 34, 36 are mounted on the portions of the support members adjacent the forearm. The plates 34, 36 are adjusted so that they are parallel to the forearm and bear against it..Each plate 34 or 36 is pivotal about a pin (74, Fig. 6) on a threaded shaft 42 which passes through a slot (82, Fig. 5) in the appropriate support member and which is longitudinally displaceable by a threaded nut 40 retained on the outside of the support member by brackets 88. Alternatively, each plate (34", 36", Fig. '13) is secured to a support member by two independently adjustable 'screws (122) threaded through the support member and loosely retained at each end of the plate. In another construction each plate is pivotally connected at each end to a spring urged pin (94, Fig. 10) which passes through a support member, a cylindrical wedge (106) being slidable between the support member and the plate to' adjust the inclination] 'of the plate relative to 'the support member. The length of each end strap 18, 20 is adjusted by a buckle 50, the third strap 22 being fixed to one support member and adjustable relative to the other by a fastening fabric.
