Abstract
1,192,388. Conveyers. INSTRUMENTATION SPECIALITIES CO. 26 May, 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 24503/67. Heading B8A. [Also in Division B1] Fraction collecting apparatus comprises two spaced parallel chambers which may be defined by container 10; parallel transfer passageways between the chambers ; a plurality of shuttles A to K, each shuttle being arranged to carry a plurality of fraction containers and having camming surfaces at its ends, the shutters being arranged as shown; means including drive means for moving the shuttles successively through a filling station f or # 1 in one of the passageways, movement of shuttle A for example through one passageway causing by initial co-operation of the camming surfaces on shuttles A and F the lateral movement of shuttles F to K towards the other passageway. The drive means may comprise gears which when the shuttles are in the passageways mesh with gear racks formed along the bottom surfaces of the shuttles (Fig. 3, not shown). The shuttle-moving means may also include hook members (27), (27<SP>1</SP>) at opposite ends of each shuttle, the hook members of two shuttles automatically coupling as the shuttles move into the end-on position and uncoupling when the foremost of the two starts to move laterally. In the embodiment of Figs. 11 to 17 (not shown), oblique surfaces are formed at the inner corners of container 10 and these co-operate with parts of the camming surfaces at the ends of the shuttles as the shuttles move into and out of alignment with the transfer passageways.
