Abstract

1,192,304. Refractories. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 21 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 14010/68. Heading C1J. A coating of a refracting oxide or an aluminium phosphate or their precursors is applied to the surface of synthetic refractory fibres, dried and fired. An initial protective layer, e.g. a synthetic resin, can be present. The coating can be applied to the fibres before or after they have been incorporated in a shaped body, preferably by impregnation with a suitable solution, e.g. silica sol, in which chromite or zircon is suspended. The body may include coke. Fibres are of CaSiO 3 , SiO 2 , Al silicate or an alumino silicate.
