Abstract

1,192,227. Locking devices for lifting tongs. AMERICAN CHAIN & CABLE CO. Inc. 7 Sept.,1967 [28 Sept., 1966], No. 40883/67. Heading B8H. A lifting tongs, Fig. 4, has a locking cam 30 mounted for rotation on the bottom of a plate 20 which holds the jaws 12, 13 in the open position during alternate lifting movements. Each time the tongs are lowered the cam is turned through part of a revolution by a stop 60 and on alternate lifts the cam engages in a hole 54 to hold the jaws open. This is illustrated in Figs. 5a-5d (not shown). Two other constructions of tongs, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), have a cam 30, Fig. 3, which is rotated by an abutment 72 and engages in a recess 71 to hold the jaws open.
