Abstract

1,191,770. Carrying liquefied gases. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 6 Dec., 1968 [14 Dec., 1967; 16 Sept., 1968], No. 58113/68. Headings B7A and B7S. The hull of a carrier of liquefied gases having conventional metallic bow 14 and stern 16 portions comprises a concrete cargo hold midportion 12 fastened between the bow and stern portions and having prestressed cables 28 which hold the concrete mid-portion in compression. In the embodiment described the concrete mid-portion has four tanks 18 each with a liquid-impervious lining comprising thermal insulation system 36 lined by flexible metallic membranes 54. Steel bulkheads 32 of the bow and stern portions act as anchorages for cables 28.
