Abstract

1,191,386. Hospitals. JAMES HOWORTH & CO Ltd. 25 April, 1969 [2 May, 1968], No. 20764/68. Heading E1A. [Also in Division F4] To prevent infection during operations the patient and operating team are enclosed in a transparent chamber through which sterile air is passed and the air exhaled by the team is pumped away by pipes connected to their masks. A four sided enclosure of glass or plastics panels surrounds the team and most of the operating table; a curtain covers the lower half of at least one side and accommodates the table. The lower half of the other walls may be hinged or may hook on and off to facilitate access. Fibre glass or a transparent plastic may be used for these lower half walls. One end wall has a hatch a<SP>4</SP> to enable instruments to be passed therethrough. The volume of air supplied is infiniately variable by means of dampers. The air is supplied from two ducts b leading to heads b<SP>1</SP> connected to tubes B of a porous textile material. The air is filtered, heated or cooled and treated with ultra violet light.
