Abstract

1,191,266. Electromagnetic switches. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 22 Aug., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 40309/66. Heading H1N. An attracted-armature plunger type electromagnetic switch is coupled to a lever, which serves to engage and disengage a pinion and toothed wheel for motor starting, one end of the lever being trapped between a part of the plunger armature and a spring-biased part slidable on the plunger. As shown, the plunger armature 13 is moved when a coil 12 is energized and drives a shaft 21 so that a bridging contact 26, resiliently mounted on the shaft 21 engages a pair of fixed contacts 31. The armature 13 is biased by a spring 19 which acts on a part 18 to urge it against a sleeve 17 which engages a washer 16 secured in the end of the stem 15 of the plunger. A spring 30 between the plunger body and the part 18 also urges the part against the lever (not shown) which is normally retained between the part 18 and washer 16, to allow lost-motion if the pinion and wheel do not interengage.
