Abstract

[Also in Division E1] In a material-handling machine, e.g. a shovel loader, actuation of a ram 6 to move a materialhandling implement relative to a support thereof is regulated by a control system associated with a manually operable, three-way valve 46 by which fluid is supplied to and exhausted from the ram. The control system is such that, after a manually initiated movement of the valve to cause the ram to start to move the implement relative to the support, the system automatically takes over the further control of the valve to cause the valve to be held in the initiated setting until completion of the started movement of the implement and then to lock the valve in a neutral position so that no fluid can pass to or from the ram until the control system is over-ridden by further manual operation of the valve. The control system involves stop-carrying linkage 43, 44 connected together with a hand lever 5 to the valve spool 45 of the valve 46. The stop 43 co-operates with a spring-biased detent 40 operable to engage or clear the stop 43 by a slave actuator operable by pressurized fluid from a pump 24, 26 connected between the two relatively movable parts of the ram 6 as to be made operative by movement of said ram parts.
