Abstract
1,191,162. Glass composition. OWENSILLINOIS Inc. 13 Sept., 1967, No. 41691/67. Heading C1M. A glass composition consists essentially of the following, in mole per cent: SiO 2 70-82, ZrO 2 2-8, Al 2 O 3 0-5, Na 2 O 0-10, K 2 O 0-10, Li 2 O 0-10, CaO 0-15, MgO 0-15, SrO 0-15, BaO 0-15, R 2 O (=Na 2 O+Li 2 O+K 2 O) 3-10, MO (=CaO+SrO+BaO+MgO) 2-15, and R 2 O+MO at least 10. When SiO 2 is in the range 75-82 there may additionally be present TiO 2 and/or PbO and/or ZnO in the range 1-3. Many specific examples are given. The glass may have a coefficient of expansion of 35-55. 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C. (0-300‹ C.), has a low liquidus temperature, e.g. 1000-1500‹ C., believed due to the proportions of ZrO, and is chemically resistant. The composition is suitable for making chemical and laboratory apparatus.
