Abstract

1,191,071. Thermal switches. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. 10 Dec., 1968 [12 Jan., 1968], No. 1813/68. Heading H1N. [Also in Division E2] An oven or chamber having electrical heating elements located therein for effecting a high temperature cleaning operation of the interior, has a door which is automatically lockable by a temperature responsive actuator located in the oven or chamber and comprising a casing 15 containing a wax of high melting point, a piston including an inner end portion disposed within one end of the easing so as to be embedded in the wax and an outer end portion projecting axially outwardly of the one end, and connected to mechanism for locking the door, an electrical heating element within the casing and controlled by a switch which is closable when the door is shut and the oven or chamber is to be subjected to a high temperature cleaning operation, the heating element in the casing, on closure of the switch, serving to melt the wax which expands and effects axial movement of the piston against the action of spring 32 to actuate the door-locking mechanism, the door remaining locked until the switch, comprising contacts 33, 34, of the heating element of the actuator has been opened and the temperature within the oven or chamber and within the casing of the actuator falls to that of the melting point of the wax, the spring on contraction of the wax retracting the piston to release the door-locking mechanism.
