Abstract

[Also in Division F2] An hydraulic jack unit for applying tension to reinforcement rods or cables for concrete elements comprises a cylinder 1 with a piston 2 having a piston-rod 3 extending through a seal 6 at the tail end 5 of the cylinder. The piston 2 is sealed to the cylinder wall by seals 9. A hollow tubular element 19 extends through the cylinder 1, the piston 2 and piston-rod 3 being a sliding fit thereon. A cap 12 carried by the element 19 closes the head end of cylinder, being secured thereto by an annular inset weld 13. The weld material is of a different colour from that of the cylinder 1 so that when it is machined out, e.g. for replacing the seals 9, it is easy to detect that it has all been removed. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a stool member for use with the jack.
