Abstract

[Also in Division H1] Channel selection in a radio or television receiver is performed by means of one solenoid in a bank of solenoids arranged side-by-side in a common yoke. Fig. 1 shows a solenoid bank with coils 10-14 arranged in a yoke 15 which comprises two spaced members interconnected by a plurality of spaced limbs 16, so that magnetic flux resulting from the energization of any one coil is distributed over all the limbs. Each solenoid may have main and auxiliary windings as in Specification 1,190,191 (Fig. 3, not shown), the main winding being operated by A.C. or D.C. mains and the auxiliary switching winding being energized by a valve or transistor from a push-button unit, if desired through a light or ultrasonic beam or a capacity switch. The solenoids are mounted in a bank above the tuner unit of the receiver, each being arranged to select a particular channel. The control means for the solenoids may be in the receiver cabinet or at a remote position.
