Abstract
1,190,098. Electric clocks. ATELIERS "SPENDIA". July 27, 1967 [July 27, 1966], No.34505/67. Heading G3T. A clockwork movement e.g. for a timepiece, has an output shaft 3 drivable either by a synchronous electric motor 7 or by a reserve spring system 5 controlled by an escapement 9 which is released when the motor 7 is de-energized, and halted when the motor 7 is energized. The motor 7 is effective when energized to drive the shaft 3 and to wind up the spring system, and means is provided whereby the shaft 3 will continue to be driven by the motor 7 after the spring system is fully wound. The reserve drive spring is mounted in a barrel 12 and is wound by rotation of the barrel by the motor 7 via a gear train 6. The barrel 12 is freely rotatable on the shaft 3 and carries gearwheels 24 forming satellites of an epicyclic gearing and each having two sets of teeth meshing respectively with a sun-wheel 23 rigid with the shaft 3 and with a sun-wheel 22 rotatable on the latter. The sun-wheel 22 is coupled via a gear train 8 and the escapement 9 to a balance wheel 52, which, when the motor 7 is energized, is prevented from moving by a braking device 71, 72 actuated by an electromagnet 73. Thus when the motor 7 is energized the sun-wheel 22 is held stationary and the satellites 24 revolve therearound with the barrel 12, the tooth ratios of the epicyclic gearing being so selected that the sun-wheel 23, rigid with the shaft 3 to which the inner end of the spring is secured, rotates in the same direction as, but more slowly than, the barrel 12 whereby the spring becomes wound. When the spring is fully wound the barrel slides relatively to a friction clamp holding the outer end of the spring. When the motor 7 is de-energized the barrel 12 is held stationary together with the friction clamp holding the outer end of the spring, whilst the inner end of the latter drives the shaft 3 under the control of the escapement 9.
