A spin winder, i.e. a spinning and winding unit, having spinning stations arranged in a row for the production of endless synthetic threads, wherein a multiplicity of threads produced simultaneously in operation by a spinning head is guided via preparation rolls, a doffing galette and at least one deflecting galette individually to winding devices comprising drive rolls and reeling bobbins and arranged beyond a spinning shaft, is so arranged that the axis of the doffing galette is parallel to the front wall of the spin winder and so that the deflecting galette(s) and the reeling bobbins are so arranged that their axes extend parallel to each other and perpendicular to the axis of the doffing galette. Preferably, the drive of the doffing galette is arranged to be supplied by a motor of the external rotor type. As shown, a sliver 1 from spinning shaft 2 is pressed by yarn guide 3 against preparation rolls 4 and 5 which apply a liquid. A spreadertype yarn guide 7 is arranged before each of two deflecting galettes 8. Below the galettes 8 and parallel thereto are packages 9 driven by friction rolls 10, the combinations serving as reeling devices, and between the galettes 8 and reeling devices 9, 10 are traversing thread guides 11. Advantageously, the stationary identical parts of the reeling devices are arranged vertically or substantially so one above the other under the doffing galette. This spacesaving arrangement of the reeling devices may be effected in various ways. Either the fixed pivots of the packages or the fixed pivots of the drive rolls are arranged to be vertical one above the other. Further, the fixed pivots of the bobbin swivel arms or the fixed pivots of the drive roll swivel arm can be arranged to be vertical one above each other.
