Abstract

1,189,757. Welding by fusion. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 28 May, 1968 [2 June, 1967], No. 25470/68. Heading B3R. A machine for performing peripheral welds, e.g., to weld a plug 17 into the end of one of a group of tubes 7, comprises a tubular mounting 1 carrying a member 6 locating in the end of one of the tubes 7, slidable members 8, 10 carried by the tubular mounting 1 and connected by parallel links 4 to a torch 14, support 2 and a drive for rotating the rotch 14 around the support 2. The slidable members 8, 10 when moved together move the torch 14 axially of the tubes 7 and when moved relative to each other adjust the torch support 2 radially of the mounting 1. The torch support 2 is rotatable about the mounting 1. The torch support 2 has a pneumatically actuated gripper for use in inserting a plug 17 into the end of a tube 7. The torch 14 is mounted on a platform 18 rotatable on bearings on the support 2 and carrying a motor 15 driving a pinion 20 meshing with a fixed gear 22 on the support 2. The machine is remote controlled and an endoscope 24 and camera 25 are provided.
