Abstract

1,189,329. Heat-treating textiles in presence of liquid. LEEMETALS Ltd. 1 Nov., 1968 [11 Nov., 1967], No. 51397/67. Heading D1L. A continuous length of material is subjected to heat-treatment in the presence of liquid while hermetically enclosed between a pair of endless bands in a thermostated chamber heated by live steam or resistance heating elements. A treating liquid is previously applied to at least one of the enclosing surfaces of the bands and may also be directly applied to the material. The bands may be of polypropylene- or neoprene-coated fabric or titanium sheet and their edges may be sealed together by adhesive or mechanical means. The chamber may have a sealed inlet and outlet for operation under pressure. Bleaching (with sodium chlorite/acid), dyeing or desizing may be effected. As shown, the enclosing surfaces of bands 10 and 11 are coated with treatment liquid from applicator pads 26 and the material is optionally treated with liquid or heated at station 23', whereafter the material, enclosed between the bands, is passed over rolls 13 in sinuous manner from an inlet 15 to an outlet 16 through a chamber 14 heated by live steam from perforated pipes 30. The material is separated from the bands in a combined rinsing bath and water seal 17, washed by one of two jets 31, passed between squeeze rolls 18 and 19, and wound on roll 19. The separated bands pass the respective washing jets 31, squeezee blades 23, and drip catchers 27.
